School recently commenced for me! I’m taking two, 5 credit hour courses online. To say that I’m crazy is an understatement. It’s only week two and I’m already feeling the burn. Most days, I just stay at home in my pjs, so I can get crap done. However, there are those occasional days when I feel that I need to make contact with the outside world again. And on those days, I like to be as casual as possible. When you’re spending approx. 4 to 6 (sometimes more) of your waking hours doing graduate level course work, the last thing you want to do is waste time obsessing over what to wear. Ain’t nobody got time for dat. So, I really value my quick “go to” pieces in times like these. I love the fact that you wear some of your most basic pieces in a million different combinations and get a different result every time. Now, that’s what I call practicality!
During late December, I found myself needing a quick casual look for Wednesday night church after a full day of blogging and pre-course reading (I try to start my coursework before the classes actually start, so I’m ahead). So, I whipped out a pair of jeans that I’ve LITERALLY had for 4 years from Target (and yes, Target still carries them) and my favorite AE sweater. Because I didn’t really have time to tame my mane, I threw on a Ralph Lauren wool beanie (another score from the ever reliable T.J. Maxx, I told you I was a MAXXINISTA). My next decision was shoes. So, I tried on both my hunter boots and fancy ox converse to discover that they both worked, which made my decision really tough. Thankfully, the weather forecast helped me finalize my decision, as rain was predicted for the evening.
But I knew that I ABSOLUTELY had to wear this exact same look and change it up with the converse. So, I just knew that this was my opportunity to share one look, two ways with you guys. In a world where we are told that we need the latest and greatest that fashion has to offer, I simply wanted to show you that I truly stand behind the idea of practical fashion. It’s totally ok to wear the exact same thing. That’s what I call real life. Most of us “everyday gals” are not in a position to wear something completely different everyday! So, I say, don’t be ashamed of that and embrace the fact that you have the ability to change it up. Change it up by adding a different shoe, change it up by adding a different purse or even a different pair of sunglasses. Change is good and so is practicality.
