ALL IMAGES DARIAN KAYCE

When it comes to Valentine’s Day (or truly any date night for that matter) Jason knows I want both a fanciful and charming experience. I just can’t help it. I love any excuse to dress up and experience something uniquely beautiful with the one I love. Just in case you haven’t noticed, I’m the corny one in our relationship!

One of the things that Jason and I both have in common is a massive love for the arts! We are suckers for an opportunity to experience art. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon (aka next week), we thought it would be fun to share a few last-minute, but perfectly unique date night ideas for you and your boo. Without question, whichever cultural experience you choose, make sure it includes dinner. Because we believe in the power of love, we’ve even jotted down a dining location or two to accompany each possible date night spot!

Ok, enough of the prelude chat…without further adieu, here are 5 Fancy Last-Minute Valentine’s Date ideas:

An Evening at Ballet Met – Honestly, there’s nothing more dreamy than a classic ballet (with the exception of the Nutcracker says Jason). From live music to seeing the body motion, a ballet performance is truly the perfect way to blend multiple experiences into one. Ballet Met is currently showing Giselle, which tells the story of a peasant girl who dies in discovering that the one she loves is betrothed to another. Ballet Met’s rendition of this classical ballet commences on February 9th and runs until February 17th (perfect timing for Valentine’s Day).  Ballet Worthy Resturants: Lindey’s, Barcelona, G. Michael’s Bistro.

A Night of Symphonic Hip Hop Columbus Symphony – To be completely honest, we have not experienced the Symphony just yet, but we recently acquired some tickets and have been looking at the calendar. With new art experiences, it’s always nice to ease into it with something that is familiar to you. On February 17th, the Columbus Symphony is hosting a night of symphonic Hip Hop with THE WYCLEF JOHN. Yes, you read that right. Hip Hop Symphony Worthy Resturants: Forno, The Rossi, The Keep and The Pearl.

Experience Contemporary Art at the Pizzuti Collection – Yet another lovely and unique idea for Valentine’s Day is to visit an art gallery. While Columbus has a rather fine lineup of galleries, we recommend the Pizzuti Collection. From the art to the atmosphere, there’s truly something unique about this gallery. This is definitely a pre-dinner activity, as the gallery closes decently early. However, on Thursdays, they are open until 8PM. Gallery-Worthy Resturants: The Guild House, Marcella’s, Hyde Park and Martini.

A Movie at the Drexel – Sometimes there’s nothing better than catching a movie. It’s simple and perfectly laidback. However, for Valentine’s Date Night you can step up a notch by making it a bit more luxe. Say hello to Drexel Theater. Located in the heart of Bexley, this theater is darling. With a short list of films (most independent), this movie theater is intimate and perfect for a casual chic date night. Be sure to check their site to see what’s playing, as the films do not stay around for long! They keep it fresh. Date Night Chic Worthy Resturants Near The Drexel: Giuseppe Ritrovo and Moshi Sushi.

Ballroom Dancing Class at Danceville U.S.A. – Every gal wants to be swept across a dance floor. Thank you Dirty Dancing. Lucky for us 614 folks, there’s a ballroom dancing studio right downtown. Danceville U.S.A. offers a range of styles…from foxtrot to tango to salsa. We stopped by the studio a few months back to check it out and the studio is charming! You aren’t going to want to eat before class, as it may cause extreme discomfort. Post-Dance Class Worthy Resturants: Harvest Pizzeria, Italian Market, and Cosecha.

And there you have it. Just a couple of ideas to get your wheels turning! Shoot us an email at hello@liveloveandread.com if you have more specific questions, as we are happy to answer them!
