ALL IMAGES KEN HARRIS

One of the things that I’ve been doing quite a bit lately is collaborating with other creatives here in Columbus! There’s no doubt about it, Columbus is busting at the seams with creativity. From fellow stylists, event planners, fashion designers, graphic designers, photographers, you name it. One of the things I love most about working with other creatives, is how it naturally stretches you. It allows you the opportunity to see how you might improve your area of expertise, to see how others see you (in this case, how others capture you), etc. Simply put, it opens you to exploration and thinking…lots and lots of thinking. One of the things I feel that I am really learning this year is just how important it is for me to collaborate with others. More often than I prefer, I’ve been going through spells of “dryness.” Feeling completely and utterly uninspired. I call it the “Creative Blues.” However, over the last couple of weeks, I’ve discovered that I need to incorporate more strategic collaborative encounters to help me avoid that feeling.

One of my latest collaborations included working with Mr. Ken Harris, also known as @youkenlook via Instagram. We made some pretty killer magic together if you ask me! His style is a bit more “moody” than my normal bright approach. However, I really love it. In fact, I’m currently thinking about making a transition stylistically with my editing. This is something that I likely would have never even thought of if I hadn’t collaborated with Ken. While this is a rather simple example, let it be a reminder to find “your people” and create. As a creative, it’s so important to continue growing and learning things about yourself. One of the easiet ways to do exactly that is through collaborative community!

For my fellow creatives out there, what are some of the ways you continue to improve your expertise and keep things fresh?
