Just in case you haven’t noticed, my style is pretty preppy! I’m all about the classics. Polos, white jeans, and of course a trench coat. However, I do like to venture outside of my comfort zone and explore other styles. One of those being the hipster style, which is basically polar opposite of any and everything preppy! Rather than creating a completely hipster look, I thought it would be fun to combine the styles together, hence the name prippy.
Since “preppy” is my dominate style, I decided to focus more of my efforts on the “hippie” aspect. For starters, I began with these killer flare jeans that I purchased from American Eagle late last summer in an attempt to further explore my inner hippie. Well, that didn’t exactly happen, as I have only worn them three times (including the photographing for this blog post). ha. I then layered the look with a soft pink crochet top from Pink Blush, which is currently on sale for $13, as it totally has a hippie-esque vibe. I am obsessed with the fringe like detail on the bottom. And for footwear, I decided to go with a slight platform. Oh yes, I’m totally in love with these shoes and you’ll be seeing a lot of them over the next couple of weeks! You guys know I’m a total binge wearer when I find something I love.
For the preppy factor, I went straight to my go-to pieces and they are: classic trench coat, vintage Dooney & Bourke handbag, Delicate Raymond vintage monogram necklace and Michael Kors watch. To my surprise, the combination of pieces worked together quite nicely! To complete the look, I layered my arm with a few Alex and Ani bracelets, a gem stone wrap bracelet from Chloe and Isabel and a soft nude lip!
So, for those of you who find yourselves wanting to explore other styles that aren’t quite you, I would encourage you to try combining them with your dominate style! Not only is it fun, but it provides you with an opportunity to expand your personal style boundaries, as well as appreciate others.
“Personal style is about taking a risk, trying something unexpected, and having fun with fashion.
But always being true to yourself.”
