Happy Saturday! I know, I know. I’m sharing a blog post on Saturday. Not typical Candace, but this past week has been sooooooooo insane with finals (I STRONGLY DISLIKE THIS FASHION THEORY COURSE) and I felt that I owed it to you guys to get this post up since I shared a sneak up via Instagram earlier this week! I’m not a fan of waking up at 6AM on Saturdays, so please know that Saturday postings will not become a regular thing (Unless you guys like it? Drop a comment below with your thoughts!).

I believe it was around this time last year that one of my favorite style inspirations, Mary of Happily Grey, shared a beautiful look of her in London wearing an amazing mauve/blush colored skirt and a crochet lace top (SEE HERE). I mean, the look was seriously amazing. So amazing that I was like, “Hmmm, I think I would like to recreate it to suit my style.” And nearly a year later, that’s exactly what I did. I’m no Mary Seng (and yes, she is EVERYTHING), but I love the end result of the look. It embodies similar elements to hers, but produces a different aesthetic, which is great since we are two different people, with two completely different styles.

So, at this point you may be wondering, “Well, why are you recreating a look? Especially from another style blogger.” Well, that’s exactly point. As you’re developing your personal style, it’s COMPLETELY OK to find inspiration from others. I am personally convinced that we often become obsessed with creating our own individual identity through fashion that we forget that it’s ok to be inspired by others. In your quest to define your style, don’t limit yourself…find inspiration from other individuals and recreate it on your own terms…after all, that’s what true fashion is all about.

“To me, clothing is a form of self-expression – there are hints about who you are in what you wear.”

– Marc Jacobs
