For those of you who know me personally or have been following me here on the blog for quite sometime, know that I truly believe in the sentiment, “LESS is really MORE.” I gotta admit this mindset was not always one that I lived by. In fact, there have been times in my life where I was soooo obsessed with stuff. This obsession with stuff really rang true with my love for clothing. In the moments that I could afford it, I would totally do a major clothing haul at F21, H&M or any other fast company you can think of. Upon getting married and realizing that money does not grow on trees and that I had a little bit of a problem, I placed myself on a 90 day shopping fast (which actually ended up being 120 days) in hopes of resetting my mindset. Nearly two years later since that period of fasting, I’m proud to say that I am a much more thoughtful consumer of fashion. Rather than buying on trend (often low quality) clothing, I really make an effort to sit down and think about the purchases I want to make, if they will add value to my closet and lifestyle, etc. You may call it extreme, but consumerism and fast-fashion consumption has sooo many underlying issues that it would literally take me 7 blog posts to explain the reasons our generation and society is riding the consumerism struggle bus!

A couple of the things that I’ve been researching and exploring here lately are accessible luxury, fashion promotion and social corporate responsibility, all of which have rocked my fashion world. As mentioned in a post in December, I’m still attempting to figure out how I can share some of my findings with you all without confusing the heck out of you! But in the meantime, I would like to encourage you to stop, take a moment, re-think your closet by doing a little closet edit and be a bit more intentional in your purchases. Its my goal for fashion to be a moldable and affordable accessory in every woman’s life and I do believe that goal is all the more achievable when we begin to be intentional in building our wardrobe!

With all of that being said, I would like to challenge you ladies (and gents) to “re-think” your closet and join the #beatfastfashion movement. I should preface by saying, I’m not challenging you to only purchase luxury, fairtrade or U.S. made fashion, I’m simply asking you to edit the way you think before you make a purchase! For the last couple of days I’ve been experimenting with Capsules by Cladwell, which is a company that celebrates intentional shopping and essentially helps you to rebuild a wardrobe that reflects your lifestyle and new intentions. Basically, you just need to check it out…I feel certain that it is something many of you will love! And if you do LOVE IT, please drop a comment about your thoughts on Capsules by Cladwell or what you think of consumerism or anything that pertains to this topic for a chance to WIN a Capsules subscription!!  One of the most important things we can do for the #beatfastfashion movement is to get the conversation started. Let’s do that HERE. RIGHT NOW.

This post is kindly brought to you by Capsules by Cladwell. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.

  1. I have been thinking about this so much lately! Yesterday, I majorly purged some areas of our house and it felt so good! I tend to hang on to things “just in case”, but I quickly become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of it all, so I avoid the area all together and move what I really use to another area (beauty products and clothing are #1 and #2 problem areas) I could really use some help in simplifying!

  2. I’ve been trying to head in the direction of a capsule wardrobe for awhile now, but I’m really no fashion oriented (read: I hate shopping) so I’ve found it really difficult to find pieces I really love that work together. I love the idea of just getting it in one bundle, especially the part where someone else does it for me! 😉

  3. This is so timely. I’m at a new stage in my life (new baby) and we want so much for him. Being a good steward of our money is something I know we need to do but….I LOVE Target…I literally can spend $300 dollars there a week. Hopefully I’ll do better
