So, I’m quite certain that showcasing “work attire” has been a request from a number of my followers and I have yet to do it! Sorry guys. Sometimes its easy to get stuck in what you “normally” show your readers that it becomes hard to venture outside of the box. I made a list of must talk topics including, The 5 Must Have Essentials, a Loubution Review and Work Attire, among other things. To kick off this new series of content, I felt that work casual would be an appropriate starting point.

I haven’t worked in a real office setting for nearly 3 years, so it took a little bit of extra styling brainpower to come up with a look that I thought would be both casual and office apporpirate for the every day working gal. While styling I found myself reflecting back on my time at New York City Ballet. I was basically poor, no extra shopping and needed to wear “office” clothing every day. With primarily causal-esque clothing hanging on the garment rack in my Queen’s sunroom turned bedroom (was paying like $500 per month for rent…CHEAP), I soon realized that the easiest way I could give my look a quick “work causal” boost was with footwear. I strongly feel that your choice of shoes has the ability to set the tone for a look. So, rather than attempting to buy a brand new wardrobe, I went out to Zara with my refund check from NYU and purchased a few pairs of great shoes and simply paired them with what I had and guess what? It totally worked! With a simple pair of great shoes, I was able to make a pair of pink jeans from the Gap, office appropiate. See HERE!

Any who, the long and short of this story? When building a work casual look, I like to start from the bottom and work my way up. Establishing the choice of footwear for the look becomes the basis for creating the remainder of the look. If you are looking for a great work shoe, you should definitely check out Steven Madden Primpy. It can be easily dressed up or dressed down!

Once I’ve established my shoe of choice, I move forward with selecting my bottom of choice. My standard rule of thumb is, if I select a “dressier” skirt or pant, I can go more casual with the top choice and if I go with a causal bottom, then I have to go with a “dressier” top…that way the look is balanced! So, for this particular look I decided to go with a front pleated vintage skirt from Callie Anna Vintage Shop and pair it with a denim shirt from Madewell. To ensure the look had that causal vibe, I did a double layer necklace affect and wore my Daniel Wellington Watch. Oh, and no look is complete without a little lip color. With a variety of brown hues, I decided to forgee my typical natural lip and go with a pop of orange!

And that’s my take on casual office wear! Let me know your thoughts down below.
