As I grow older and more in love with fashion, I’ve realized that trend is often wayyyy less important than dressing for what suits my body and overall style aesthetic. That was definitely a tough cookie to choke down, because as a Fashion Girl, it’s natural to want to “sport” the latest and greatest everything. I share all of that to say, not every trend is for every gal…ya know? In my opinion, it’s important to identify what trend best suits your shape and then taste secondly. On the flipside, I also believe there are some trends that just EVERYONE swoons over and it’s nearly possible to find a little something for everyone…there’s no doubt about it…VELVET is one of those trends right now. From celebs to your favorite style influencers, we are all obsessed.

As a young gal myself (in elementary school), I remember wearing a ton of velvet! Mostly velvet dresses and tops that my mom picked out for me. With the renaissance of velvet happening for the last few seasons, I’ve found myself drawn to velvet pants and SKIRTS. I didn’t realize I had a real velvet obession until I purchased these two skirts within just a few days of each other.

When it comes to velvet skirts, you’ve got two options…midi and mini. Look No. 1 showcases the velvet midi look. With fan pleats and the floral screen print, I love how classic this piece is. For styling, I decided to pair this beaut with a dramatic bell sleeve top, a killer vintage Gucci waist belt (I borrowed from a girlfriend) and these gorgeous taupe sandals. For a touch of dress down, I added my favorite crossbody from Madewell! While I was definitely looking to make a statement with this look, I still wanted it to be approachable!

Look No. 2 is all about the velvet mini. My legs are crazy long, so I don’t often reach for shorter skirts! But this one from Madewell had the ruffle detailing, which made it just right lengthwise! With minis, I don’t ever want to look “too young” or like I’m trying too hard, so I worked on elevating this fit with some classiness. A soft blush blouse and a classic handbag most definitely did the trick! For a little dose of sass, I completed the look with these killer over-the-knee boots I just got from Kelsi Dagger! Ahhhh, they are life.

And there you have it, just two style ideas to get your wheels turning on how you might approach the velvet skirt, if that’s your jam!

Happy Weekend my darlings!
