There’s no doubt about it, I’m an aspiring Parisian! I’m completely and utterly obsessed with the French culture and talk about it often. From fashion, to entertaining, to beauty to French calligraphy, the obsession is real. On my latest quest to continue unveiling my most inner “Parisian” self, I snagged a copy of the famous “How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are” book while out shopping this week. Ironically enough, this book was in the section of Barnes and Noble labeled “Personal Development.” I’m not 100% sure why I find that amazingly funny, but it’s funny. Considering my infinite love for the finer, French things in life, I have not the slightest clue why it took me 3 years to finally purchase this book.

Just as you expect it to, it discusses all the specifics…French love, mannerisms (good and bad), beauty, style, etc. While the beauty portion of this guide mainly focuses on the “skincare” of a Parisian gal (which if you don’t know, French women take skincare VERY SERIOUSLY), there’s one Parisian beauty sentiment that I was well aware of and that’s LIPSTICK! Lipstick tends to be the “accessory” to a French gal’s look. The goal isn’t to completely change “the look” of the woman, but rather to enhance her face. Hence, why they take skincare sooo seriously.

I think it goes without saying, but French women and red lipstick are synonymous with one another. As a wannabe Parisian gal, there’s no question about it, you need a BOMB red lipstick. I’ve worn quite a few red lipsticks in my day, but I feel like I have FOUND MY ONE. You know Parisian girls commit to what works. I would venture to say they aren’t like Americans who try everything under the sun. Currently, on the vanity for both display and use is this Rich Ruby by Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte lipstick. While it is matte, it’s still incredibly creamy. To help the lip color live to its fullest potential, I pair her with theMaybelline Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner. I was anti-lip liner for years, because it added an extra step and extra product. But if you are gonna be a Parisian chic, you don’t take short cuts. You go the extra mile to complete the look!

In addition to having a bold red lipstick, I strongly believe that every Parisian gal also needs a go to pink. Let’s be honest, French or not, there are just some days when you are not feeling BOLD lips. However, it’s still important to have a statement lipstick.  Much like red, pink is representative of femininity. And if you select the right shade, I’m still convinced you can make the same statement in a more subdued manner. My current go-to shade is also from Maybelline and is entitled “Born With It.” What a fitting name for all of this French talk. For my lip liner, I opted to go a bit darker, as I do have brown skin and find it incredibly important to blend a bit, to really get your desired color. With the pink combo, I lined a decent portion of my lips and filled it in with bright lipstick.

Overall, I would venture to say I’m well on my way to becoming perfectly Parisian, thanks to a little extra help from Maybelline. These products have most definitely helped me step up my game. Now if I could just convince Jason to take me to Paris…guess I’ll just continue being a wannabe Parisian girl for the time being.
